Trip over trip- By Dilsha XI A

I’m writing this as per the special request from ‘special’ people in my life. Maybe they are celebrating my first clumsy event along with me.

It was a Tuesday. The school hour for the girl section was over but being privileged seniors, we had special classes. Another privilege we love is that most of us even though we have space to carry all the books in our bags, we still like to carry some in our hand. The reason for that is something to fathom over in another blog. So as you have guessed it, I was walking with few textbooks in my hand but what you couldn’t have guessed was that I was also carrying three charts. Three on very different subjects so don’t argue why I couldn’t have rolled it all into one single chart. I just didn’t.

Coming back to my tragic little story; there I was walking one second and in the next, I’m on the floor. The charts had flown away, thankfully, or else I would’ve been on top of it and that would’ve been more idiotic than it already was. It was the PIPE. The Pipe I have never seen before. The Pipe I am sure was made during the winter vacation. The Pipe on which I just tripped.

The floor left me with a hole on my shirt sleeve and a visit to the nurse’s. I had scraped my right elbow. The days that followed were not one bit pleasant. Everyone once in a while would tug or push that very arm. Accidently of course. Maybe not.

After a few days, the wound had almost healed and I was being less of a drama queen- Until someone made me meet the floor-Again.  Which meant the wound opened up with fresh blood on my sleeve and I was in the nurse’s room-Again. The very next day, destiny made me visit the nurse’s- Again.

It’s been a week since my first fall and I’m still walking around with a bandage. I’m beginning to think that The Pipe cursed me. In the spirit of Thomas Edison, I found out 3 ways not to fall. Thankfully I have my dearest friends to pick me up every time I fall, after they finish laughing of course.

Those blogs which include my Brother are true incidents in my life. If it was asked to make a character sketch of my Brother it will most probably include ‘Trouble’ as his middle name. I’m not here to tell you otherwise but as a sister I couldn’t wish for a better Brother.

He might seem intimidating at first but once you get to know him you will know that he won’t even hurt a fly, unless it is flying around his food. Outside, he might look rock solid but inside he is just a warm marshmallow. Even after turning 21 years old, he still is a marshmallow.

Sometimes when I have nothing else to do than just sit and think, I think about the days I did a ‘Hulk’ smash on his back and did a demonic laugh (or I like to think it was close to a demonic laugh). He never said a word in those days. He just grabbed me and stuffed me inside a pillow. He was just always there to make sure that I was happy. When he left for his college I thought to myself- ‘I got his room’. It took only 5 minutes to feel the emptiness of that room to bring tears.

There were nights when he would sneak in his PSP and we would see movies under the blanket. There were evenings when we would take our bicycles down the street and he would play cricket with me. Well that was mostly because I played like a retarded person. There were mornings when he cooked breakfast for me because he was afraid I might burn the house down. There were days when he would lock me out of the house and I had to jump in through the window. And again he would kick me out of the house. There were days when I get really hyper and he would just stack me on top of the cupboard. There were rainy seasons when I tore the pages of his notebooks and made paper boats.

When Mom and Dad are at home, we both are completely in love with each other. As soon as they step out, Home is a battleground. There were even days in which we both got hurt while fighting, well me more than him- I got 3 stitches once. Everything is fair in love and war.

All those blood, sweat and tears, today they bring a nostalgic smile. A smile that only he, my Brother, can bring on my face. That is the thing about siblings, even if the sky comes falling down, they will still be there- making sure that the sky falls right on top of you.

Happy 21st birthday Brother.

Stupid since birth- By Dilsha XI A

Sometimes, when you go for a walk alone, specks of childhood memories just flash before your eyes. You won’t even know when and where it took place. The only thing you will know is that whenever you think about it, a smile crawls its way to your face. It will fill your heart with a certain type of warmth and your mind will be serene. For that one moment, that flash back, separates you from the outer world and makes you forget your problems. For that one moment, you are happy. I found a speck too.

In those days I thought that having a watch on your wrist made people look matured. More ‘grown-up’. So I went to my Mom and with puppy dog eyes I asked her for a watch- A pink watch with Barbie on top. So matured of me. With a dimple smile she replied that she will buy me one but first I have to show her that I knew how to read time. Now that was a serious problem. I only knew when it was an ‘o’clock’. You know, 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock etc.

So I planned that when that minute hand strikes 12, I will tell her the time. Not so much of a plan but I was optimistic that it will work. I think my Mom came to know my plan because the next thing I know I was being pushed to the bathroom for a shower and you can’t tell the time when you are in a shower. Literally!

For every 5 minutes or so I kept peeking my head out of the shower to check whether that long stick (that’s what I had named the minute hand) had stroke on 12 yet. After which looked like my 10th peeking, it finally stroke on 12. I ran out of the bathroom with a soaked head and a water dripping towel around me. Finding my Mom in the kitchen I yelled ‘ITS 4 O’CLOCK!!’ (I think)

I didn’t get a watch that day. Instead I got a memory of my Mom laughing till she started gasping for air. And that memory is worth more than anything in the world.

My mother asked me to go to the market in the afternoon. Initially, first I wanted to avoid but then thinking she need milk for my little brother, I left home. I reached the market and was about to pay money for the milk when suddenly, I realized that I wasn’t paying to a human, but to a cow.

Yep! You read that right! There was a cow, dressed up in his pajamas and standing on his 2 feet while his other 2 feet were his hands. I think I was freezed for like 5 seconds when he asked:

“What man? You never saw a cow selling milk? Now moo….”

Then I realized that I was standing there creating a long queue behind me. Something alarmed me. There were animals on the line_Giraffe with an extra-long collar, a hippo (thank goodness, his dress is loose), a goat with a red tie and a suit (looks like he came for his breakfast), a chicken with a frock and a tiara, and a slimy little frog. I was freezed for 3 seconds, trying to figure what the problem was, is it my mind or nothing. The cow began yelling at me, “Yo, man! What’s the problem with your leg? Moooo…”

I took the milk and slid out of the line. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The situation is like the entire 7 billion human population is now 7 billion animal population. Where did all the human go? Did they go extinct? When did they appear in the endangered list? But I saw human yesterday, how did they disappear within a few minutes?

With all these questions in my mind, I suddenly saw something unexpected, Judy and Nick from Zootopia is right in front of my eye. Timon and Pumba were there too!  Wow! Now it’s like the cartoon character has come to life! Are they wearing a sort of costume? No way. It looks just like a natural skin.

Am I dreaming? All these questions kept poking my mind and I couldn’t do anything to stop them. My curiosity was just too much. Closing my eyes would make the situation worst. What if I bump into an elephant? Who knows, it could be there! So, I just kept my eyes open and gazed down hoping that would keep my curious mind calm. But that was even worse than before! A group of mice with tiny coat and all them were carrying a suitcase, and I hate mice! They’re too disgusting, horrifying, nasty and not at all cute!

It’s just so overwhelming I don’t know how else to react. Animals were acting like how humans normally act.  I should have brought my phone so that I could show my brother. Thinking of my brother, I must go home and give this milk to mom. Oh boy! I just got worried whether my family turned into animals too.  I rushed home and rang the doorbell.

The first thing I saw was a weird blue dolphin opening the door. This confused me. How is a dolphin walking on its fish tail? How is it still alive? Is dolphin supposed to breathe underwater?

Then I saw a peacock entering! I just got an amazing fact that everyone’s turned into animals and I’m the only one in this whole world, who’s a human! I was kind of enjoying the situation when I’m completely dumb and I have no idea what’s going on around me, while others just think everything is completely normal! I wanted to tell mom and Jayden was just happened, I called out for my brother, “Jayden!”

Guess what, the dolphin answered: “What man?”

I came to a crazy conclusion that my brother just got turned into a dolphin. I couldn’t help but laugh and admit that this is crazy! “dude, you…you really need to look at the mirror! Mom?”

“what happen dear?”

“Mom, you…you’re a peacock!”

She got confused and thought I was crazy. Then suddenly the dolphin shouted: “Yes! It works!”

I have a bad feeling about this dialog, “What works?”

“The micro-chip!”

“When did dad give you that?”

“Dad never gave me, I made it and with this, I can control anyone’s imagination if it’s stuck behind their neck!”

Then I noticed that there was something, smaller that a finger-nail, stuck behind my neck.

 Nothing to say!

HIGH SCHOOL :BEST PART OF MY LIFE

Hey ma’am, I am really astonished how you can make this topic so clearer to me. I am inspired by your thoughts. Can you please though tell me why interpretations can come out from insides? You can cross my impulses.

MY ENGLISH TEACHER:Shubhi, you have to think sometimes often quite tentatively and in open hand. Never think of one item. Mix any item with some other thoughts. Life is not one channel, dear. I am your teacher but not like the commander if you although check me to the details.

Oh ma’am, I want assure of you that I have tendencies to grow up my mind into wide plots of fixations so that open range can float in my tender ideas.

Shubhi, make sure first your stance. Otherwise you will never get it out. Think like the ways are many but the end is on one point. You will never know when you will be stopped and why you have to be stopped for which circulation. So make them clear first. I can tell you one thing again and again that you are my student but I can think you as my friend if you can reach me like the way I am at you.

From the idle-busy surfing, she became the lamp for my mind.

“Working as a bee cannot be the tendency but working in joyous mind can fix any guideline into the brightness.”

The Last Quill- By Afroza Ayreen Afia_X-A

The Last Quill

What would you do if you heard something like this “Guess what guys! I heard that a quill is now an extinct object. There’s only one left in this world and it’s believed for many centuries that the last quill will have the ultimate power to fulfil the wish of a human that finds it!”

I’m just a normal teen and I just got a normal life and first, I never knew that this quill existed. No! Hold your horses! I’m not the one who is having the quill nor was I the one who found it. Here’s a piece of advice, don’t believe all the non-sense story what the last few centuries people believed, or else you’ll be a fool! Here’s why…

It was mid of autumn season and I was in the garden with my twin sister who looks nothing like me! Really, people say that we’re twin just because we were born on the same day, same month, same year, same hour and we wore the same clothes. She’s way taller than me, dumber than me, and her handwriting is…let’s say it’s not neat! Just because she’s dumb and stupid, I’m the one who’s writing this whole story!

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah! I was in my garden and I was playing with the leaves. My dad was piling the leaves and I got bored with crushing the leaves, so I just saw a comfortable bench and I walked to it.

Before I could completely sit and relax my body or even take the relaxing cool air through my nose and feel it, I heard dad’s voice. “Nellie, could you please come here for a moment?” I didn’t answer him because I knew I had to go closer to him and asked why he called me.

“Nellie dear, go and bring the garbage bag, would you?” I nodded my head and went to the kitchen to get a garbage bag. I walked towards the house and for the first time, I took a notice of how many steps it took me to reach the kitchen. I saw the garbage bag under the cabinet drawer, pulled out one and walked back to the garden. Dad was still busy piling up the leaves. “Here dad”

“Thanks, come on let’s pack them up.”

So, we both were packing up the leaves and my sister joined in too. I took a handful of leaves and I noticed the colorful pattern nature gave them. It’s beautiful to have them around but they keep on messing up our garden.

Then in the middle of all the crushing noise the leaves and the bag made, my sister shouted out,

“WOW! Look at that!”

She sounded surprised and I saw her picking up a long unusual sized bird feather. It was longer than an average leaf. I turned to see dad’s reaction. He was surprised to see that feather, I could saw that because he usually pops his eyes whenever he sees something fascinating.

The feather was longer than my dad’s face! It was having such a strong sense of winter that I could imagine the winter’s snow falling. It was beautiful, soft, relaxing to watch and a very satisficing image. I don’t know why it made me have such a strong sense of feeling. The cool wind blew on it, making it’s soft, white feather move like as if it wants to run and fly and dance with the wind.  I as totally lost in the feather’s beauty. All those satisfying moments just got blown away as soon as I saw my sister’s hands on it. The next thing I saw was she running away with that feather. Maybe she wanted to show mom or hide in her cabinet.

So, I was done doing what dad told me to do and I went back inside just to see what she was doing with that feather. Before I could start my hunt for the feather, I heard mom giving us a warning call that the food was getting cold. I was so curious to know about that and just have another look at it. I didn’t want to go to the dining room but when I heard my sister’s slipper, I knew she would ask me why I was here. Since I had no answer, I rushed to the dining room, sat on my chair with washed hands. I sat there as if nothing happened. My sister joined in, then dad and finally mom. I already started to fulfil my hunger, mom and dad were talking about the snow-white feather. I guess it’s a big issue to talk about or maybe they had nothing else to talk about.

After my lunch was done, I did what had to be done and calmly walked to my room which was upstairs.

I opened my door and jumped into my cozy bed and covered my faced with my pillow, hoping that was the only solution to make me forget about that feather. But all that did was one main thing, reminded me about that beautiful, white soft feather. Why was that feather so attractive? What’s making that feather so special to me that I can’t stop thinking about it? Why can’t I get this out of my mind? Why a feather? These questions were only unanswerable.

Then I thought of just checking my sister out. I have no idea why I made this decision of asking her about this, but I had to try. I got off my bed and walked to her room which was the next door. I found her room door open and I went in. Jennifer was on her bed with a bunch of book around her.

“Jennifer, what happened in here?”

“Nellie! I forgot to tell you something. A few months ago, Mia and Emily were talking about the last quill. They told that…”

I listened to her carefully as she spoke with full excitement.

“…there was no quill left! They also told that there’s only one quill left and that last quill is very special!”

I felt like she’s telling a story from a storybook and it made no sense at all. I asked her,

“I didn’t understand!”

“Look, what if this is the quill everyone was talking about? This quill could fulfil our wish and we could be rich and famous!”

That’s the dumbest story she ever told me!

“But you don’t have any prove that this is the last quill!”

“But I never saw a quill for a long time.”

“Maybe ‘you’ never seen!”

She went speechless.

“By the way, how can a single feather make you rich and famous?”

“Come on Nellie! Think about it. Maybe, this could be the ancient feather…in our hands and we discovered it!”

“Why did the word ‘ancient’ come in the middle?”

“Because this was the greatest search in history and…”

“And we didn’t ‘discover’ it, we ‘found’ it!”

“but…”

I paused her.

“Hold on! Hold on! Your fact is not even a fact!”

“because it’s not a fact, it’s a belief. People believed this for many centuries”

“And you’re believing that?”

“Yeah!”

“WHY?”

“You…”

“Stop, stop, stop! I had enough of your nonsense! Show me that feather!”

She took the feather out from a box and gave it to me with a confused face. I observed it carefully and realized something.

“You stupid! It’s the feather of Albino Owl!”

Subject D44- By Afroza Ayreen Afia- X

SUBJECT D44

“Strange object found on planet earth”

“Mysterious sighting on planet earth”

As soon as I heard this news, I got a call from my assistant, Astrid, that I must come at the sighting. I got dressed up and hopped in my hover car and headed to the sighting spot. The closer I got to that area, the more the number of people increased. All they wanted was a pic of that object and share it in social medias. Rest all were busy updating their mind with the latest news about the sighting. There were smartphones, smart glasses, smart watches and many other latest gadgets.

On the way, my hover car was stuck. The streets were filled with people and we aren’t allowed to fly hover cars over the people, or I can say, it’s against the law. So, I got off my car and pulled out my hover board, switched it on and flew over the crowd. The people looked like tiny ants from here, and what’s an ant? We never knew. All I know that it’s just an expression.

Soon I could see a blue beam of light and knew that it was the area. I flew closer and noticed a rectangular shaped stuff. That area was fully secured and surrounded by robot army with HELLADS and laser guns, and also by hover cars and planes, aimed and ready to fire in case that thing moves. Seems like that found a deadly but unknown objective. I flew even closer to take a good pic and a video with my contact lenses, but before I could click for a pic, I heard my name out loud,

“Miss Daphne Dolliver, you are kindly requested to lower your hover board for your own safety”.

I just realized that it was my assistance, Astrid. I flew closer to her and landed beside her. “Hey Astrid! What all the news about?”“Miss Dolliver, a mysterious, unidentified object was found in this spot this morning. We got this news from our RoboG66 and RoboW84 secured this area immediately.” “Can I got closer and take a good look, Astrid?” “No Miss Dolliver, I recommend you to stay here. You could zoom in your contact lens and send some image to the headquarter for further investment. I’ll order RoboG66 to take this to the headquarter.” “Thanks, Astrid!” I did as she told me and send them to HQ. “All done Astrid, Send this to my HQ, We have to observe this” “ Yes, Miss Dolliver. Right away!” Astrid clicks a switch on her arm and my hover board flew to me. I hopped on and I flew back to my hover car and then I flew back to the HQ.

Before I reached my HQ, the object was already kept ready for investment. I sat down with my team-mates and discussed this strange object. Some of us say that it might be a time bomb that could blow up the whole earth, while others say that it might be a deadly object from our enemy, neighboring planet, Mars. We couldn’t come to conclusion.

Then I came up with an idea, “ People, why don’t we just touch and observe that” There was an immediate response. “No, are you gone mad?” “Miss Daphne, it’s really risky” “That’s a really bad idea!” “No Way!” Then I came up with another idea, “Okay then why don’t we display it in the exhibition center?” One of us came up with this “No wait, why don’t we just destroy it?” I rejected that idea “I think keeping in the exhibition will do us no harm!” Everyone accepted this idea. “so what shall we name this?” “Subject D44”.

The next day, there was a crowd in the national exhibition center. “Citizens of the 62nd century, welcome to the national exhibition center” Everyone was attracted to the new display, Subject D44. And later, I just realized that something was written on Subject D44. It says ‘BOOK’.

WHAT IS IT ?

I HATE IT BUT I LIKE IT ,
I SEE IT BUT I FEEL CRYING ,
I WANT TO DO BACK BUT I FALL DOWN LAUGHTER,
I REMEMBER IT BUT I TRY TO ERASE IT ,
I THINK OF IT BUT I FORGET IT,
I WROTE IT BUT I TORE THAT PAGE ,
I SAW IT AND STILL CAN’T CONTROL MY LAUGH ,
What is “IT” ? – FROM THE CROWD
Actually i doesn’t know ‘IT’- I WHISPERED.

“Always got my back”- By Dilsha XI A

There used be a time when I kept asking my Mother where did I get my Brother from. Only one desire was behind that question- to return him back! Even though I have no such intentions at the moment, I can’t help but travel down the memory lane. The only good thing I am getting out of it are the writings. So I guess it’s worth having an awesome elder Brother.

Can you imagine a 4thgrader, in front of dozens of parents starting her speech by “Respected ladies and gentlemen?” Well stop imagining if you want because you can read about it now.

It was the last day of the summer camp. From a balcony, I was scanning the grounds for my parents. It was really a great day. I had gotten a small trophy for being on my best behavior that camp and I couldn’t wait to show it to my parents. Thinking they might have not arrived yet, I went back to my Brother who was wearing makeup for the play. I don’t know whether playing the “King of Hell” was the hero role or the villain but since I love my Brother so much I’m not going to lie- he was the villain. Even I was in a play but I didn’t need any makeup.

I was just sitting there minding my own business when one of the coordinators had rushed in. Before I know it I was at the backstage and somehow had agreed to do a speech on my experience in the camp. With perfect timing, my brain decided to detach itself from my head and I was left with an empty conscious. How did I even get on the stage?

I am going to skip the speech because this is my story and also because I don’t remember. What I do remember is how I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it and also ending my babbling little speech by saying- “I am terribly sorry, this was my first speech”

I learned many lessons that day- Firstly that when you are a kid and all cute, no one really listens to what you say and secondly, villain or not, the King of Hell can howl flawlessly.
