The Black Sash- By Dilsha Dinesh XI A

Sam loved to flirt with death. People thought he was a madman to challenge the devil. They confirmed his insanity when he bought that house down in Elm Street. The story of how a son brutally chopped down his father for power is not just a bedtime story.

It was a chilly winter night when Sam and his wife moved in to that historic mansion. He deliberately pushed away the chills running down his spine when he, along with his wife, were strolling down what seems like a never ending hallway filled with portraits of the ones who are almost 6-feet under the ground by now.

After sometime his wife announced that she is going to bed and went off towards the bedroom. Sam was staring at a portrait of the father who was murdered by his own son. Suddenly he heard sounds as if chalk was being scratched on a board. He turned around only to be faced by a man with a cleaver in his hand and his clothes dripping with blood. He recognized the creature in front of him as the man in the portrait. Sam grew paler than the creature in front of him and his throat went dry.

Within a blink, the man was gone! He thought it must be because he was tired and decided to finally get some shut eye. He went to his bedroom to find his lovely wife fast asleep. He noticed the black sash she always loved to wear still on her neck. Thinking it might be uncomfortable for her, he removed it only to see her head roll and drop to the ground.
